Known to be one of the nicest day trips one could venture out on from the early days of Seattle yachting is an excursion around Bainbridge Island. In those days, if a yacht club member invited you for a cruise around Bainbridge, it was something special.
Departing Seattle in the morning across the waters of Elliot Bay and Puget Sound to the southern rocky tip of Bainbridge, we will enter the secret tidal passages that once concealed native war canoes. Zigzagging though the emerald channels separating Bainbridge from Kitsap peninsula, you will see of a wide variety of sea birds and often catch a glimpse of seals and even occasional whales feeding in the shallows.
Proceeding up the west side of Bainbridge Island, you will see a variety of salty beachfront cabins adjoining numerous natural estuaries and coves. Passing by the mouth of Liberty Bay, we will continue through tide rips at Agate Pass and around the north end of Bainbridge to Port Madison.
Port Madison is Bainbridge's historic waterfront community located on a private cove. Here, you will see stately craftsman homes built at the turn of the last century that housed mill workers and fishermen.
On return to Seattle, we will cruise down the rugged east shore of Bainbridge and with time, weather and tides permitting, slip into Eagle Harbor for a quick look around before heading back to port.
A voyage such as this on a classic yacht is a long day at sea for hearty mariners. You are sure to experience a wonderful range of natural and historic scenery as we leisurely explore the shorelines of Bainbridge Island with plenty of time to relax, eat and enjoy.
