CAPTAIN "DAVE" PETRICH
(US Coast Guard Master 50 Ton Inland Licensed)
With more than three decades on the water, Captain Petrich is an experienced marine pilot. Born and raised near the waters of Puget Sound in Old Town Tacoma, he took to the sea at an early age aboard dozens of small power and sail boats owned by family and friends. During the Summers in the mid 70's, David and his brothers ran one of the few commercial beach seiners on the Sound. Later, he signed on the F/V Grayling as skiff operator and helmsman as he commercial fished for salmon in the San Juans and Puget Sound. As an avid sailer, David crewed on many local race boats including participating in the famous Swifitsure race. He also has experience with bareboat charters in the South Pacific.
The Petrich name is well known in Tacoma maritime history. Captain Dave's grandfather was a well renowned shipyard machinist and part owner of Puget Sound Boat Building in Tacoma. The yard was best known for its construction of fine-lined wooden salmon and sardine fishing boats. He enjoys discussing local maritime history with those who are curious about the early days of Puget Sound. Other family relations included Martinolich Ship Building, Fairliner Boats and Petrich Machine Works in Ballard.
Captain Dave has run countless excursions on power and sail vessels throughout the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands. An avid recreational boater, sports fisherman, world-traveled commercial photographer, vegetarian chef, published inventor, marketing guru and a dot-com veteran who can always find common ground with adventurous souls.
