SOUND WAVES (Blog)

Thurs. Jan 18th, 2007: Ok. Captain Dave here. Well, this is my first blog entry and I have to apologize that I am not much of a bloggist. Would much rather be spending time at sea than sitting behind a computer. - But that is just where we will have to start. I've been a technology guy for the last 20 years and have seen a lot of changes. But i have also spent considerable time out on the water and for all that we try to do, things don't change much there. Sure, new boats and new gear. But the waves are the same, the smell of the sea is the same (Unless you are up close to one of those big ugly cruse ships after it dumped it's sewage in the Straits of Juan de Fuca) - Ok. that will be a story for another day. You can at least get a hint of where I might be going with that. - I never considered myself to be a tree hugger, but enough is enough. I think if more people got out and enjoyed the water, there would be fewer pollution problems to talk about because certain things just would not be tolerated. You wouldn't think of dumping your garbage in the middle of your kitchen floor now would you?

Anyway, I got off on a bit of a tangent here. What I hope to accomplish with CedarWave.com is to create a portal to all the information that one would need to get off their butt, toss the remote, and get out onto the water. I don't care if it's on my boat or Joe whoever's boat you decide to go out on. - Just get out there and experience it. I had the fortune to grow up on the water down by Tacoma. As a kid, I spent countless days beach combing, sailing, cruising and fishing out on Puget Sound. My father and grand father had the same experiences when they were young. There was a time when most of the inhabitants of the Northwest were intimately familiar with Puget Sound. - because that was the only efficient to get around. The Sound was crowded with passenger steamers, ferries and private launches that tied even the smallest shoreline communities to the major metropolises. I think that with the ever increasing density and traffic congestion, people will once again be driven to the water as a way of transit. - Or at least to be able to get away form it all. It's funny, there are really so few cities that are like Seattle. - With the dubious distinction of having the worst traffic congestion in the country and immediately adjacent to the serenity and solitude of what lies just to the west. Unlike places like LA, New York, or Chicago, You can literally step out of the rat race within minutes of downtown and be off to a remote hideaway without the hassle of airports, trains and stressful road trips.

So, my blog on Cedar Wave is mostly going to be about how and where to get out and enjoy the waterways, shorelines, islands and beach communities in the Puget Sound region. But, as you can probably tell, I am also some what of a conservationist and historian - So from time to time you will catch me posting about issues that pertain to the health of our local waters and fish stocks as well as the way it used to be. Well, there you have it. - My first blog entry. Not one to make the national blog media but its a start.
